Case Study: Executive Leadership in Nursing This highly-competitive, advanced fellowship for nurses in senior executive roles has usedFriday5s for each of the past thee years to support leadership development. The program is unique because of the individualized attention focused on each fellow. Participants come together 2-3 times a year for week-long training modules; in-between they complete individual learning plans with the help of an experienced mentor. Participants useFriday5s following their introductory seminar, which focuses on skills assessment and self-knowledge. Participants establish three developmental goals based on their feedback and learning. TheFriday5s system allows each executive nurse participant to to view other's goals, progress and learning. The instructor uses the Group Leader View to coach and mentor participants. Results Participants found that theFriday5sreminders caused them to effectively reflect on their goals and what they had learned. "They forced me to think about my goals, even in the middle of what else I was doing. They were a reminder of what I had and hadn't done." TheFriday5s system fostered continued collaborative learning after the participants returned to their own institutions. "I learned the most from scrolling through the thoughtful responses of others." Friday5s follow-through helps support the program's goals by assisting participants in applying what they learned and in sharing their learning.Friday5s also provided powerful documentation of the program's effectiveness and ideas for continuous improvement of an already excellent initiative. |
