Case Study: Leadership Development / Global EMBA Program

For the fourth straight year, two leading International Schools of Business are using Friday5s to support leadership development in their joint Global Executive MBA program.

This intensive two-year program brings together highly talented and experienced managers from around the world. Leadership is a core component of the first session.

Students study leadership through lectures, case studies and discussions and receive 360° feedback from a variety of instruments. At the conclusion of the session, they set two goals for improving their leadership skills.

Over the next three months they record their progress, reflections and insights in Friday5s. These are then used as the starting points for a deeper exploration of, and discussion about, leadership at a class reconvene.

Results

Numerous studies have underscored the importance of reflection in leadership development. As Linda Hill wrote in the Harvard Business School note Managing Your Career:

"To learn from their experiences, managers need to reflect on and consolidate the lessons of those experiences."

Friday5s has proven especially useful in prompting executive reflection. Participants' comments are often truly insightful and represent real breakthroughs in their personal development.

The coaching and collaboration features ofFriday5s enable students to stay in touch between sessions - even though they are dispersed around the globe - and to share their experience and expertise.
