Learning Transfer is now resonating with learning leaders to a degree we have never seen before. ASTD for the 2009 International Conference asked Andy Jefferson and myself to run an experiment. The innovation was to deliver three sessions within the 2009 ICE Conference that those attending could take as a series of three integrated offerings or as single sessions. Each session focused on two of the Six Disciplines of Breakthrough Learning.
The results were incredibly positive. The Monday session was so full that more handouts had to be printed on the fly. The Tuesday session had so many wanting to attend that the session volunteers called security to help them turn people away because they thought the room was too packed for the fire marshal to be happy. The third session on Wednesday morning at 8:00 AM on the final day of the conference was standing room only with many sitting on the floor in the aisles.
The response from ASTD coupled with the response we’ve seen from numerous companies who are using this time of economic uncertainty to sharpen their swords, led us to create an application for deeper learning around the Six Disciplines. Starting July 16th, I’ll be facilitating a Virtual Six Disciplines Workshop series to answer that request. For more information, click here.
I share this experience on behalf of all those of you who have partnered and worked with Fort Hill Company over the last ten years to move the finish line of training and development from the delivery of great learning to the delivery of great business results. Because of your hard work the value of making learning transfer and follow-through an integral part of every important learning initiative is now being shared by our colleagues from around the world and coast to coast.
